Hojicha Powder (Roasted Green Tea Matcha, Japan)
A finely milled roasted green tea powder sourced directly from Japan - smooth, nutty, and naturally low in caffeine. Made from carefully roasted green tea leaves, hojicha powder delivers a distinctive smoky warmth that sets it apart from every other tea powder in this range. A Marulin team favourite. Use it exactly as you would matcha: in lattes, baking, ice cream, and chocolate.
What Is Hojicha Powder?
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea roasted at high temperature - a process that transforms the leaf's colour from green to reddish-brown, eliminates most of the caffeine, and replaces the grassy vegetal notes of conventional green tea with a toasty, caramel-like warmth. In powder form, the whole leaf is consumed rather than discarded after steeping, retaining its full nutritional profile. The roasting process also produces pyrazines - the aromatic compounds responsible for hojicha's characteristic nutty, smoky depth.
Tasting Notes
Toasted nuttiness · gentle smokiness · subtle caramel sweetness · smooth, clean finish · no bitterness

How to Use Hojicha Powder
Hot Hojicha Tea:
Dissolve 1 tsp in 160ml hot water. Use more water for a lighter brew.
Hojicha Latte:
Whisk 1–2g powder with a splash of hot water until smooth. Add 250ml warm or frothed milk - oat, soy, coconut, and almond all work particularly well. Sweeten to taste. Serve hot or over ice.
Iced Hojicha Latte:
Whisk powder with a small amount of warm water. Pour over ice and add cold milk. Sweeten as desired.
Baking & Desserts:
Mix into pancake batter, cookie dough, cake mix, or muffin batter for a roasted tea flavour. Whip into buttercream frosting or dust over yoghurt, ice cream, or pastries for a smoky, nutty finish.
Hojicha Ice Cream:
Fold powder into your ice cream base before churning for a smooth, roasted hojicha ice cream - one of the most popular hojicha applications in Japanese dessert culture.
Smoothies:
Add to smoothies or protein shakes for a naturally low-caffeine alternative to matcha.
