8-Year Aged Pomelo Tea + 40g of Loose Leaf Pomelo Tea (Aged Tie Guan Yin Oolong in Pomelo, Luye Township, Taiwan)
One of the most extraordinary teas in the Marulin range — and one of the rarest in the world. A whole pomelo fruit, hollowed and filled with Tie Guan Yin oolong, then sealed and aged for eight years until the tea and fruit have become inseparable. The result is a deeply complex, naturally sweet aged oolong with the distinctive citrus fragrance of dried pomelo — a living piece of Taiwanese tea craftsmanship that can only be made once per year, in very limited quantities.
Each order includes the pomelo with its aged tea plus an additional 40g of loose-leaf pomelo tea — so you can share the experience with friends without breaking open your pomelo until the moment is right.
Very limited supply — pre-orders for next season may be possible. Please contact us if interested.
What Is Pomelo Aged Tea?
Pomelo aged tea (柚子普洱 / 柚子烏龍) is a traditional artisan tea format originating in Southern China and practised by select producers in Taiwan. A ripe pomelo is carefully hollowed, packed tightly with tea leaves — in this case, Tie Guan Yin oolong — then resealed using the pomelo's own skin and slowly dried and aged over years. During this time, the essential oils of the pomelo peel gradually infuse into the tea leaves, while the tea itself continues to age and develop inside its natural citrus shell.
Eight years of ageing is exceptional even by the standards of this format. The extended ageing period allows the tea and pomelo to fully harmonise — the citrus bitterness mellowing, the tea deepening, and the two becoming a single unified flavour.
Tie Guan Yin (鐵觀音) — also known as Iron Goddess of Mercy — is one of Taiwan's most celebrated oolong cultivars, prized for its floral character and natural sweetness. After eight years inside the pomelo, those qualities have transformed into something altogether more complex and rare.

About Luye Township
Luye (鹿野) — literally "deer field" — is a township in Taitung County, Taiwan, named after the deer that once roamed its valleys. It holds a special place in Marulin's story: one of our trusted tea farming friends based here produces this pomelo tea in very limited quantities, by hand, once per year. No two pomelos are identical — each is a handmade, naturally varying piece of tea craftsmanship.
Key Features
How to Brew Pomelo Aged Tea
From the loose-leaf (40g included):
Use 4g per 250ml of filtered water (strongly recommended). Brew at 90–100°C for 5–8 minutes depending on preferred strength. Use a fine strainer — the tea has a naturally powdery texture from the drying process.
Opening the pomelo:
Reserve the pomelo for a special occasion. When ready, carefully break open the dried shell to access the aged tea inside. Brew as above. The pomelo shell itself can be used as a natural vessel or display piece.
Reeves recommends this tea without milk or sugar — the aged complexity and citrus fragrance are best experienced unadorned.
