Reeves' Brewing Instructions
Remove the puer tea from bamboo stick - the tea is tightly packed inside. The most effective method requires caution! Put a (clean) flat screwdriver or chisel onto an edge of the upright stick. Hammer the screwdriver or chisel until the stick splits. Use your hands to break the stick in half and access the tea. Some will be loose and some will be compressed.
Another method involves sawing it open. Again use caution!
You can also use a a long sharp tool or metal chopstick to poke at the tea while inside the stick. However, this may not release all of the tea.
To brew the tea: for each 100ml of tea required, use 2g. Rinse the loose tea with boiling water for 5 seconds. Then, pour the required amount of boiling water (using a 2g tea to 100ml water ratio). Brew for 4 minutes. After brewing, retain tea for up to 5 brews per day. Subsequent brews can be shorter, depending on your taste.
For the compressed tea, you should carefully break it up with a sharp tool before brewing. Or, you may choose to add extra brewing time to the first brew (similar to brewing a puer toucha).
