A Single Estate Handpicked Alishan Golden Daylily Milk Oolong – Winter - strong floral notes, citrusy and creamy
Described as “smooth, intoxicating floral with hints of rose water and citrus notes and pine nuts creaminess” by one of our tea sommeliers.
The Golden Daylily milk oolong is grown in Alishan by Mr Lee, one of our farming friends, and aged under vacuum. This version of milk oolong has less of a milky taste and more of a floral taste, which is why we call this milk oolong by the other name given to milk oolongs, Golden Daylily.
The name Golden Daylily is a transliteration of the cultivar, Jin Xuan, used to make this tea. Note that we do not add any flavourings or scents to our milk oolongs. Mr Lee has also produced one of our award-winning milk oolongs.
ORIGIN
This milk oolong is grown in Mr Lee’s garden, which is located in the middle of the Alishan Mountain range. The Alishan Mountain range includes the highest peaks in Taiwan. This garden is located at around 2000m elevation. We were introduced to Mr Lee from our long-time neighbour, who looks after his fields with the drones in Nantou and makes our award-winning Empirical Oolong.
CULTIVATION AND PROCESSING
Mr Lee made a batch of teas from his garden in the Winter, which have an very floral note in them. The floral note has become more prominent with age. Unlike the tea grown and harvested in Winter 2018, the teas are more floral than milky. The leaves have a pearl shape and are semi-oxidised. This tea has a typical milk oolong character with rich sweetness and buttery texture.
